You may not like this challenge so much but, heck, you’re GOING to do it anyway!
This is a 2 part challenge….
Part 1
We need you to GIVE AWAY ALL YOUR JUNK FOOD to a food bank, the next door neighbour, your grandma….whoever you choose, you’re happily going to give it away.
It’s time to do some Winter Cleaning in your cupboards 🙂
The following are some lame excuses…
1. I have kids, I have a husband, a boyfriend….
uh-huh. And they NEED to eat junk food right? (wrong..)
I don’t know about you but when I was a kid most Friday’s and/or Saturday’s (if I was lucky) I was allowed a bowl of chips and some pop. If I was really lucky, I might be allowed another bowl of chips through the week as a very very special treat. For desserts, I was often given chopped banana in milk, applesauce, or maybe even 2 oreo cookies if they happened to be on sale and again, if we were lucky enough. Strangely enough, I was fine with that. These days, cupboards are OVERFLOWING with junk food. PURGE baby PURGE the less junk you have surrounding you, the less likely you are to eat it!
2. I have a hard time parting with my Mr. Noodles because it’s just so EASY (sub this with other instant crap you have in your cupboards)
HELLO!! How hard is it to put water and whole wheat/rice pasta into a pot, add some REAL spices and make a real noodle dish? Ya, that’s what I thought….
3. I just can’t THROW OUT food!!
You’re not. You’re giving it to someone that needs it more than you do. PLUS, you’re changing your life, one step at a time. This is a big step but, it is ABSOLUTELY necessary if you are going to succeed in your journey to health and wellness.
Any other excuses out there? Throw them my way please and I’m sure I can help you overcome your excuse.
FEEL GOOD about doing this!! KNOW that you’re helping someone out, including yourself, your kids, your boyfriend, your husband!
Part 2
Refrain from consuming canned goods
Exceptions are legumes (aka beans like chick peas, kidney beans, lentils), canned tuna packed in water
So, you may as well pack up the canned stuff and donate that to the food bank as well!!
I get that I may be upping the ante here but, you NEED to do both of these steps in order to see results!!
Don’t forget! Have fun making room for healthy variations to your unhealthy junk food (this is where the FUN really begins!!) Stay tuned this week for ideas for healthier variations to your junk food:-)

Excellent challenge! It’s a lot harder to sneak something that’s not there! It’s very satisfying to open the cupboard and see healthy options.
Quick question-is soup still allowed from a can?
Sorry Michelle, no soup from the can allowed. Hate me yet? 🙂 Try a yummy homemade, healthy soup recipe. (great idea for a blog post- Thanks Michelle!!)
Check out Jacqui’s link below for a homemade soup that she enjoyed!!
What about “no salt added” canned tomatoes?
Hey Marnie! YES to the no salt added canned tomatoes and also Pure Pumpkin. Gosh, I knew I was forgetting some things when I was writing the post. Thanks!!
pst. I just made a wicked green lentil soup (added Wakame to it for extra minerals) at http://foodandspice.blogspot.com/2010/01/green-lentil-soup-with-coconut-milk.html . I used to have canned soup too, I just slowly phased it out for my own soup (tastes a million times better anyway!)
Great comment Jacqui! Thank you for the post and a recipe that you enjoy. Best thing is to make lots and then store leftovers in the freezer for another day!
Excellent advice Sara. I think you put me on a guilt trip with all this fast food stuff in my cupboard. However donating to the food banks for the less fortunate certainly makes me feel better and eating healthy definitely makes one feel better. Tomorrow is taking cupboard stock day (:
That’s great Linda!! Glad to hear it. Eating REAL food will help your immune system and overall health!

Ok – I’m in and since I’ve just moved and have no food in my cupboards – this is an easy one… Can I still join in even if I’m late???
Yes Laura, you sure can start!! Anytime is a good time to start and if you start now, you can still get lots of ballots for the draw. I’m still accepting photos until this coming Sunday!! You get 10 ballots when you send before shots- I suggest front, back and side shots in something form fitting so you can see the changes in your body! Hope your move is going well:-) Great time to start fresh!
