Having a sweet tooth may be one of the toughest challenges to get your mind and mouth out of the habit of!

What are your sweet teeth telling you to eat??  Chances are, you’re having a blood sugar low when you crave sweets so take a minute and look back on what you’ve eaten up to the point in which you’re craving.  The possibility is that you haven’t eaten enough up to this point and your brain is screaming to eat something and something FAST!  So.. your first instinct is SUGARY foods for instant blood sugar gratification.

Let’s get this under CONTROL NOW…

What time of the day are you craving the sugar?

Take note of this and see if it happens to be the same time every day and then look back on your food intake for the day and notice if maybe you need to be eating more good carbs ( http://www.hsph.harvard.edu/nutritionsource/what-should-you-eat/carbohydrates/) up to this point in your day.  OR, has it just become a habit and more of a mind/comfort thing and you aren’t actually hungry? (Be honest with yourself!)

How can I stop craving sugar?

As mentioned above, notice your current eating habits and see if you need to tweak what you eat on the days where you really need your sugar fix.  Hopefully you can bite the craving in the butt but, if not then….

You’re  going to have to CHANGE what you eat.  I know, the C word.  CHANGE, some of us dislike it and some of us embrace it.  I suggest you embrace it so you’ll see the CHANGE in both your body and mind!

    It’s really simple actually….

We’re going to substitute your unhealthy sugars that you want, crave and eat, with healthier sugars found in fruit!!

Fruit is the best way to get those sugar cravings under control!

Berries and grapes are great when you want candy or gummies.  Apples, Pears, bananas are good for when you want baked goods.

Chocolate substitutions you ask?  Well, in my opinion, there really aren’t any good substitutes for chocolate.  That’s when willpower comes into play.  Remember, you’re STRONG and getting stronger every time you make the decision to choose healthy.  So, again have a piece of fruit- something a little more exotic, when you want chocolate such as pineapple, kiwi or watermelon and then have a green tea to curb the minimal amount of caffeine found in chocolate:-)

Think you can try this?  Maybe I should have made this a challenge… maybe I still will!!  😉

Stay tuned for more ideas on curbing sweet cravings.  I’m telling you right now though, eating more fruit is the best and healthiest way to do it!

Agreed re. no chocolate sub. I was taking Calm (a powdered magnesium supplement). It is supposed to curb sugar cravings too, which it did at the time… I should start taking it before bed again. I recommend the flavourless one (the others are VERY strong tasting, I would rather just drink hot water).

Red pepper is a great sugar substitute. It’s sweet enough to even help curb chocolate cravings. Seriously. The chocoholic in me was made to believe…
