Normally you’ll hear me say, Just Do It! But, in the case of concentrated juice I say DON’T do it!!
I used to be a juice-a-holic, if I didn’t have my OJ first thing in the morning, I was a GRUMPY bear!! Then about 9 years ago, someone told me to get off the juice as it was increasing my calorie content and my sugar intake. I was like, “YOU WANT ME TO DO WHAT????? I don’t drink coffee or tea… surely OJ is better for me than these drinks?” Clearly, I had an addiction!!
So, what did I do? Well, I actually started by cutting my OJ intake in half. Half of what I normally had and then added a bit of water to it. Then, I switched to Crystal Light- this is something I wouldn’t do today mind you as I have since realized that artificial sweeteners give me tummy cramps and headaches. Then, I switched to JUST WATER for breakfast and upon waking. WHAT??? Yep. Plus, I would have some fruit first thing in the morning to substitute for the natural sugars my body craved.
Here are the stats:
1 cup of Concentrated OJ is approx.
120 calories
0.5 g fibre
25 g sugar
2g of protein
1 medium orange=
62 calories
3.1g fibre
12g sugar
1.2g protein
This means, you could have 2 medium oranges in substitution for 1 glass of OJ and get about the same number of calories and sugar but have much more fibre in your diet. My question is, which one is going to make you more full?? The fresh fruit or the concentrated juice?
JUST DO IT! Get rid of the juice and see your waistline dwindle and your body LOVE you!!
